Another busy, productive week but one punctuated by a few surprises and unforeseen events. It’s a classic scenario in the world of golf course maintenance, irrigation system breakdowns or leaks often occur in the middle of summer, during periods of extreme heat, and quite often right before the holidays.
Since the start of the season, we’ve been relatively spared from major problems. However, recent thunderstorms, lightning, and sudden power surges have caused a few issues.
You’ve no doubt noticed that the water level in the irrigation lake located between holes 1 and 3 at Le Maître is exceptionally low. The reason is simple. Our transfer pumps, which carry water from the river to the lake, are currently out of service, likely due to an electrical overload caused by the thunderstorms. We will need to remove them using a crane to assess the extent of the damage.
Water will therefore need to be managed carefully over the next few days. Rest assured, however, there is no cause for concern. We have already rented a mobile pump that will allow us to transfer water as needed to the irrigation pond to maintain the quality of the courses.
On a more positive note, the waterfall pump has been repaired and is back at the course. It will be put back into service as soon as the connections for the temporary transfer pump are completed.
Despite some unexpected circumstances and the recent heat and humid weather, both courses continue to improve. The turf team is happy for the cooler weather to come this week and to another productive week.
