Turf
15 AUG 2025
The last few weeks have brought us extreme heat and unusual dry conditions. In this context, responsible water use is essential.
Since 2001, our club has been working with the City of Mont-Tremblant to implement best practices for environmentally friendly golf. This collaboration includes:
- Rigorous pesticide testing, with the exclusion of products that are more harmful to wildlife and animals, even if their use is permitted elsewhere in Quebec.
- Environmental precautions that only two cities in Quebec impose: Mont-Tremblant and Memphremagog.
Since 2007, we have been following a specific protocol that determines when to reduce our water withdrawal from the river. The golf courses in Mont-Tremblant use this river to fill their irrigation lakes.
- When the river level drops, we reduce the number of hours the transfer pump operates.
- The more the flow decreases, the more we reduce the volume transferred to our irrigation lake.
This proactive management allows us to continue irrigating our courses while preserving natural resources.
Work completed:
- Mowing of the creek bassin in front of the greens on holes #10 and #13.
- Light fertilization applied to the entire bentgrass surface of the course to support turf health and density.
Watering management:
Much of our time has been devoted to watering in order to maintain the quality of the playing surfaces. This priority has temporarily slowed down some of the planned improvement work.
Starting in the second half of August, cooler temperatures will give us a break. We will then be able to resume our planned improvement and maintenance projects at full speed to further enhance the quality of the courses.
