Turf
06 SEP 2024
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, we are in our fall cultural practices of the year. Aeration on fairway 1-6-7-10-13-18 was completed this week. A 5\8-inch core was removed, followed by a verticut on the surface to break it up. The debris are then blown sideways into the tall grass to complete the operation.
This will be followed by seeding bentgrass in the less dense areas. These operations will be carried out a few times a week, weather permitting, with as little disruption to your golf game as possible. For the La Bête course, the equipment has been prepared and we should start tee offs as early as the middle of next week.
Concerning the fairway # 16 at Le Maître
We are now able to see the damage left by the abundance of rain in August on our #16 Le Maitre fariway. We managed to pump the water out of the fairway and wet area, but it left its mark. Asphyxiation of the turf, algae formation at crown level and silt accumulation have done a lot of damage. Time will tell what combination of strategies to adopt. For the time being, I'd ask you to avoid these areas both with foot traffic but especially cart traffic. When the areas dry we can see that there is some life still present but is there enough? I'll give myself a few more days to see how things evolve. It's certain that some of it will need to be sodded while others areas will be aerated, verticut and of course reseeded with a good topdressing.
Upcoming maintenance
- Continue aeration of fairways (Maître)
- Aeration of tees (Bête)
- Seeding bentgrass
