Turf

16 OCT 2026

We’re entering the last stretch of the season but an important period for the courses.  As we wrap up our final weeks of operations, our team is fully focused on closing out the season and preparing the courses for winter.

In addition to completing the last few pending projects, several important steps lie ahead to get the courses ready for the cold season.

Upcoming Work

Deep Aeration with the Verti-Drain

Once the club is closed and the irrigation lines have been drained for the winter, we will perform deep aeration on all greens using the Verti-Drain. This operation will be performed using solid rods that can reach depths of up to 10 inches, without soil extraction, in order to break up compacted or stratified layers that can restrict the flow of water and gases through the soil profile.

This practice aims to improve soil porosity, promote water infiltration and gas exchange between the various layers, while helping to reduce physical constraints on root development. It is also beneficial for winter preparation of turf covered with impermeable tarps, as improved aeration conditions within the soil profile can promote oxygen and CO₂ exchange during the dormant period. Although this operation does not guarantee the removal of gases from under the tarps, it serves as a complementary measure in our winter protection strategy.

The goal is to maintain a more functional soil profile and promote the best possible conditions for the turf’s survival during the winter and its recovery in the spring.

We will also mow natural and wild areas to limit the regrowth of trees and shrubs, while making it easier to maintain these areas next spring.

Finally, we will apply our preventive winter fungicide treatments to protect the turf from certain winter diseases. The final step will be to install protective tarps over the greens before the snow arrives.

This work is essential to promote a strong spring recovery and ensure the best possible conditions for the upcoming season.
