We had a great week of course maintenance on both courses. The temperatures were ideal for this work, and we’re already seeing the first benefits after just one week.
These maintenance tasks are essential for maintaining the quality of the playing surfaces and, above all, for preparing the courses for the cooler, wetter conditions expected in the coming weeks.
Topdressing the Greens
We applied sand to all the greens on both courses on Monday and Tuesday.
Topdressing helps maintain a more uniform playing surface by gradually filling in small imperfections and depressions caused by play and maintenance operations. The sand also helps improve drainage, reduce the buildup of organic matter, and promote a firmer, more even surface.
This is a practice we perform regularly to maintain high-quality greens throughout the season.
Aeration of Turf
Another practice we’ll perform a few times between now and the end of the season is aeration using solid tines.
Unlike core aeration, this method creates small channels in the soil without removing any material. It promotes air and water circulation in the root zone, improves gas exchange, and allows the roots to breathe more easily.
One of the major advantages of this method is that it has very little impact on play. The greens recover quickly while still reaping the benefits of aeration.
Upcoming Work
Starting next week, we’ll begin work on certain tees to re-level their surfaces and improve their uniformity.
Advanced tees will also be under construction on the La Bête course.
Once again, significant improvements are on the horizon for both courses, while we continue our weekly maintenance to provide you with the best possible playing conditions through the end of the season.
