Autumn officially arrived this week. It has brought with it more autumnal temperatures, in line with seasonal values.

We're now preparing our surfaces for winter. In addition to the cultural practices we've already begun and presented, our lawn's fertilization needs to be modified. Plants and our grass don’t have the same needs as in summer. I'll slowly increase the cutting height. Nothing that should affect your game as growth has slowed. Larger foliage allows the grass to grow longer roots. What's more, with its slightly longer leaf, it acts like a solar collector. The more the surface catches the sun, the more it will convert this energy into sugar and harden the plant as it prepares for winter.

As you can see, the clubhouse waterfall between #9 and #18 stopped working a week ago. Unfortunately, that's the end of it this year. After close inspection and testing the pump must be removed from the well and rebuilt this winter.

Why do tree leaves change color?

Leaves change color in autumn, mainly due to the disappearance of chlorophyll, the pigment that gives them their green color. As days shorten and temperatures drop, chlorophyll production declines. This allows other pigments, such as carotenoids (yellow and orange) and anthocyanins (red), to become more visible.

This phenomenon is also a survival strategy for trees, allowing them to conserve energy before winter. That's why we see these magnificent shades of red, orange and yellow in autumn landscapes.
