Turf
30 AUG 2024
At the time of writing, we're beginning to see small signs of autumn's arrival. A cooler, breezier morning, tree leaves beginning their color transformation and a few falling on the course. It's a beautiful time of year for our courses. The summer stress is all but gone, giving way to greener, denser turf and a more colorful landscape. The cooler temperatures are also very pleasant for golf.
With all these changes, comes, as every year, the time to aerate the fairways and tees. Like every year, we'll be doing this one course and hole at a time, spread out over several days so as not to inconvenience you too much.
Grass aeration has a number of important benefits for the health and density of your lawn. Here are some of the main benefits:
Soil decompaction: Aeration removes cores of soil, decompacting the soil and improving the circulation of air, water and nutrients. We aim for a ratio of 50% matter to 25% space for water and 25% for air.
Better nutrient absorption: by facilitating the penetration of water and fertilizers down to the roots, aeration helps the turf to better absorb essential nutrients.
Thatch reduction: Aeration helps reduce thatch build-up on the soil surface, allowing the lawn to breathe better.
Deep rooting: the holes created by aeration allow the roots to sink deeper, making the lawn more resistant to stresses such as drought and heat.
You can see some of the benefits of aeration. Preparing the lawn for winter is a must for optimal results.
