Turf
04 JUL 2025
The off-season is the time for planning, when ideas flow and goals line up perfectly... on paper. This is when we dream up new projects, improvements to the course, machinery maintenance or the beautification of certain areas.
But as you know, there's a world of difference between theory and reality.
The unexpected in everyday life brings its own set of surprises:
A storm that delays outdoor work, equipment breakdown in the middle of a project, a team member absent at a key moment, or a weather window that closes faster than expected.
These unforeseen events turn our schedule upside down. What was supposed to be done on a Monday becomes a task for the following Thursday - sometimes even the following month.
But we stay focused on our priorities. We know what needs to be done. Each task is re-evaluated daily to adapt to the reality of the moment. Flexibility, communication and organization are the pillars that enable us to progress, one step at a time.
We want to reassure you: even if the initial plan changes, the work never stops. It just evolves. Our goals are always there - they just take different paths to get there. And it's often these detours that lead to the best ideas.
Good news: the irrigation system is now fully operational. We have regained total control over watering, enabling us to irrigate at the ideal moment, according to the real needs of the turf and weather conditions. This precision improves the overall health of the course and optimizes water use.
In addition, a fertilizer was applied to the fairways to enhance turf density and vigour. The fertilizer is PurKote, a controlled-release form of nitrogen. This product slowly releases nitrogen according to soil temperature and humidity, enabling :
- constant, prolonged lawn nutrition,
- regular growth without overgrowth
- and less loss through leaching, for a longer-lasting, more environmentally-friendly effect.
This type of fertilizer is ideal for supporting turf during hot spells, while maintaining a dense, healthy appearance in the most heavily used walkways.
We recently carried out a hydro-seeding operation around the
sand traps on hole number 1. This process saw the seeding of Irish Links-style tall fescue ,a hardy grass with a natural look, with the aim of better delineating the contours of the hole and creating a harmonious visual reminder with similar areas on holes 11 and 12.
What is hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is an effective seeding technique that involves spraying a homogenous
mixture of seed, wood fiber (pulp), fertilizer and water retention agent onto the soil. This highly visible green slurry forms a protective layer that encourages rapid seed germination while protecting against erosion and desiccation.
Why this method?
This process is ideal for sloping or hard-to-reach areas such as the edges of
sand traps. It ensures uniform turf establishment and considerably reduces
losses due to wind or rain. In this case, the objective is also aesthetic: to create a natural transition, reminiscent of links-style courses, while reinforcing the visual definition of the
holes concerned.
