It's been another busy week on the course, with our team pulling out all the stops to cope with Mother Nature's whims and the challenges of summer maintenance.
The green on hole 5 has shown several signs of weakness and damage this last week. This green, already renowned for its highly hydrophobic soil, has suffered from consecutive heat waves, high ambient humidity and a localized problem with the irrigation system. As soon as these conditions were detected, we immediately applied a wetting agent to promote deeper water penetration.
We also undertook a complete regeneration: the green was seeded in three different directions with bentgrass, and fertilizer is applied every 3 to 4 days to support recovery. Signs of life are abundant, but a portion will still have to be soded next Wednesday.
In this regard, we will receive a new delivery of sod on Wednesday, which will enable us not only to correct the affected section of the 5th green, but also to improve other problem areas on the course.
Our young students also worked hard on fairway 4, particularly in the bare, hydrophobic areas. Using a hand-operated aerator, this makes numerous small ¼-inch holes, facilitating seed establishment. A richer layer of topdressing was then applied, combined with a suitable seed, with the aim of re-establishing a dense, long-lasting vegetation cover.
As always, our aim is to offer you the best possible playing conditions, despite the ups and downs of the season.
