Turf

09 MAY 2025

As spring slowly settles into the Laurentians, I take a moment to write to you with enthusiasm and pride to give you an update on the course. Each new season brings its own challenges, but also that unique excitement that only the spring renewal of the course can offer. This year is no exception, and I'm happy to report that things are looking very good for the start of the season at Le Maître et la Bête.

First, let's talk about the state of the courses. Thanks to rigorous preparation work in the fall, our winter tarp covers have paid off. The courses reacted very well at the end of winter. There was very little frost damage, and the vast majority of greens are in what I would describe as excellent condition for the start of the season. It's always a critical moment, the awakening of the turf after winter, and I can tell you that it's awakened on the right foot.

Another important factor for us is the level of the Rivière du Diable. As you know, this river is part of our immediate environment, and its behavior in the spring can sometimes cause concern. This year, the good news is that the water level has remained reasonable. So far, we haven't observed any significant after-effects. It's encouraging to see nature cooperating in this way at the start of the season.

But beyond the physical conditions of the turf, I'd like to tell you about the energy our team is feeling right now. Being a superintendent isn't just a job, it's a vocation. Every day, I get up with the same goal in mind: to offer our members a course that lives up to your expectations and is worthy of Le Maître prestige. I can assure you that this passion is shared by every member of our maintenance team. They are dedicated, competent and deeply attached to the course.

Upcoming improvement project

We are currently preparing the courses for the season. The greens have received their spring cut and we're gradually reducing the height of cut to reinforce plant health. This will ensure optimal playing conditions throughout the season.

  • Improvement projects: We have several construction projects underway. They are underway and will evolve over the first few weeks.
  •  Advanced tee at hole 1: We are working on the construction of a new advanced tee at hole 1 to improve the playing experience.
  • Practice range redevelopment: The practice range will be redeveloped along the Grande Allée entrance road.
  • Bunker improvements: Some bunkers will be temporarily closed for renovation work. These future improvements will enhance the quality and playability of our course.

Concerning the waterfall.

For the start of the season, the waterfall between 9 and 18 will not be operational. We had to reset the old wiring from the clubhouse’s main electrical supply line which could not be done over the winter and rebuild the pump. We should have it functional shortly.

Thank you for your renewed confidence. Thank you for being part of Le Maître family. It's an honor to watch over this course for you, and I'm more motivated than ever to offer you a memorable season.

Looking forward to seeing you.
